Permanent Resident Card Renewal

Permanent residents of Canada need a valid permanent resident card (PR card) to travel to Canada by commercial vehicle (for example, airplane, bus, train or boat).

If your PR card has expired or will expire while you are traveling, you should renew your PR card before you leave Canada.

In order to renew your PR card, under normal conditions, you must fulfill certain requirements including being a permanent resident of Canada and having been in Canada for at least 730 days during the last five years. You must also possess a valid passport.
